Agava americana

Agaves are characterized by its succulent leaves and rosette forms. Various species of agaves have been important sources of food, fiber and liquor like tequila. Although A. americana is not the agave that produces tequila, it is used to make pulque a fermented alcoholic beverage. Once century plants beg into flower, this begins the eventual decline of the plant. The plant puts all its energy into producing a flowering stalk and seeds (its offspring).
